Indonesia Bans Backyard Poultry Farms Boston (eCanadaNow) - The Indonesian government banned poultry farms in residential areas of the capital Jakarta and two other provinces to fight the bird flu. This comes as a response when a sudden outbreak of the bird flu took place last week killing four people. More Bird Flu Articles...The ban is for the capital province Jakarta as well as West Java and Banten which are very highly populated areas where these people lived closely to the sick birds. The Jakarta government asked the Jakarta City Council as well as the provincial parliaments of West Java and Banten to endorse the ban through local legislation. Last week four Indonesians died of the bird flu after the country has five weeks without a death. Many urban areas have backyard chicken farms in neighborhoods which could easily spread the bird flu virus among the poulty and humans.
